Local business, more than just a coffee

Picking up your morning coffee before work is more than just a daily routine.

It's a small business owners dream, it's their family, it's the kids education and it's your community.

Waiting in line for my routine morning coffee got me thinking about how we can all lift each other when building a business, by building a community around It.

Running a small business is never just about what you sell or offer—it’s about the ecosystem you’re part of.

In today’s economy, connection and collaboration are powerful tools for growth. Whether you’re a café owner, service provider, maker or retailer, building a strong community around your business can lead to loyal customers, trusted partnerships, and long-term sustainability.

So how do you foster that community spirit?

7 ways you can support a local business

Here are 7 ways you can share, support and celebrate other small businesses—and invite your audience to do the same:

1. Share Their Wins – Post about another business’s milestone, award, or new offering on your socials or in your newsletter. A genuine shoutout goes a long way.

2. Tag Them in Posts – When you use a local supplier, buy from a fellow business, or collaborate on a project—tag them! It not only builds visibility but strengthens trust.

3. Feature a Local Business – Dedicate one post a week/month to featuring a “local legend” you admire. Tell your audience why you value them.

4. Create a Collaborative Offer – Team up on a bundle, giveaway, or special promotion that benefits both your audiences.

5. Refer Freely and Generously – Word-of-mouth is still gold. If you know someone looking for a service or product you don’t offer—refer another small business!

6. Support In-Person – Attend their events, buy from them regularly, leave a positive review. Be a customer, not just a cheerleader.

7. Champion the “Why” – Talk about the heart behind other businesses—what drives them, what they value. This creates emotional connections that inspire action.

⬆️ When one small business rises ⬆️ we all do.

Let’s build 🏡🏣🏢🏠👨‍🌾 communities that thrive by lifting each other up—online and offline.
